Babiesknow 2: Birth to Age One

“Great. Wonderful environment; information; inquiry and support.” Rachel

A one day workshop for parents led by Kitty Hagenbach and Helen Biscoe-Taylor, focusing on the joys and challenges of the first year.

Babiesknow parenting courses have a growing reputation for creating a safe, non-judgemental, sensitive and nurturing environment for parents and babies to be heard and seen. People tell us we help to bring playfulness and humour back into the world of parenting; and they leave our workshops feeling deeply reassured, optimistic, satisfied and bonded with their babies. Many of the dads tell us how sad they are they have to go to work, and love to have an opportunity to sit in a room with other men who feel the same.

We know from experience that the first year after birth is often a very challenging time in a family. The transition from a ‘couple’ to parents, the responsibility of getting to know your baby, the sometimes overwhelming emotional response to meeting your newborn’s needs and caring for them, all adds up to a time that can be stressful and bewildering. We notice a culture of fear in new parents, with anxiety really common, and many people are reluctant to say how they really feel, for fear of being judged or criticised

We invite you to bring yourselves and your baby, with all that has transpired for you, to this 'Babiesknow 2' workshop. It is designed to create a safe open space where parents feel comfortable sharing how it is for them. We will answer your questions and concerns, both practical and emotional, and build a picture of what to expect in your baby’s first year. As ever we hold the baby at the heart of family dynamics, and provide you with a balanced, common sense approach to your baby’s first year.

Kitty and Helen are delighted to welcome back former participants from Babiesknow 1, and we love meeting the babies who we first welcomed when they were in the womb. We also love meeting new people and encourage you to come and experience the day.

Common topics include:

  • How can I be the best parent I can be?
  • Sleeping
  • Feeding my baby - breastfeeding, bottle feeding, weaning
  • I'm anxious that following my instincts will create a problem
  • Can I spoil my baby?
  • When do I need to put in boundaries, and how can I do this?
  • To work or not to work?
  • Intimacy in the parents' relationship
  • Conflict with mum or mum-in-law's views
  • How can I get support in my baby's first year?

Would you like to bring your baby?

We love having babies with us on the courses: we welcome babes in arms and crawling babies, who tend to happily explore the room and engage with other parents (and any other babies who are there). If your baby is walking, this is less easy to accommodate so we ask you to arrange for him or her to be cared for at home. If you'd like to bring your baby, please let us know.
