Babiesknow 5: Teenagers

Parenting Courses

Written by Harriet

Where there is rebellion there is hope.

Donald Winnicott, paediatrician and psychoanalyst

Kitty and Helen invite you to our parenting course in London for people with teens. Come and explore the teenage years and the challenges and excitement that accompany them, and find out how to understand your teenager, what really goes on in a teenager's head, how to support your teen through exams and other stresses and, above all, how to stay in relationship with him or her.

Babiesknow 5 : Teenagers was created in response to demand from parents wanting advice about teenagers. It's a one-day course about teenagers led by Kitty Hagenbach and Helen Biscoe-Taylor. They'll explain the neurological, psychological and physiological changes that take place during adolescence and how this affects a teenager's behaviour, including the way they feel and express themselves, the risks they may take, and the way they communicate with you, their parents.

Teenagers in general seem to evoke bad press, and many people worry about how they will cope when their children move into the teenage years.  This one day course is designed to help you feel more confident about the way you are parenting, stay in touch with and able to talk to (and listen well to) your teen, and support him or her as they emerge from childhood into young adulthood.

The day is a combination of presentations, open discussions and role plays, with many opportunities to discuss individual concerns about your family, what works and what does not.

Whether you are approaching the teenage years or already in them you will leave the workshop with plenty of ideas about how to nurture your children, and your relationship with them, and keep your own sanity, as they develop into mature adults.

'Babiesknow has been the only place that I have felt listened to as an individual and observed with my son and then been given personalised information and advice, backed by research and professional wisdom.'

Every Friday 10.30am - 12 noon, at Helen's Home, W10

Run by experienced child and family therapist Helen Biscoe-Taylor, a weekly group for parents in London W10 where you can share tips and stories, prepare for every stage of your children’s development and get advice.

The group is open to anyone expecting or with a baby, including grandparents. You’re very welcome to bring your baby or toddler. It's a combination of an antenatal group and a postnatal group, with a focus on how to meet your child's needs, and your own, and build great relationships.

We share: common-sense tips on sleeping, feeding, weaning, difficult behaviour (adult and children’s), education, childcare, introducing a another sibling, sibling rivalry and other parenting issues.

You don’t need to arrive with an issue, but those who do tell us they leave feeling more informed, with reduced anxiety. It’s an excellent way to support health, happiness and fulfilment in your family. Babiesknow 3: Age 1 to 3

Parenting Courses

Written by Administrator

“The course has given me permission and strength to follow my own instincts. I am so much happier this way and I know that by being happy it is more likely that my baby will be happy.” Olivia

This one day workshop focuses on life with an older baby: emerging language, trials and 'tantrums', choices about going back to work, nurseries, sleep arrangements, and more.

It's an ideal follow-up to Babiesknow 1, The Foundation Weekend, and/or Babiesknow 2 (Birth - Age 1). We highly recommend that you attend the Foundation Weekend before you come to this follow on course. It's not an essential requirement, but it lays the foundation for the Babiesknow approach to parenting, and is suitable for all ages.

You'll discover tips for communicating effectively with your child even under the strain of a tantrum; how to lay down boundaries; how to master a loving 'No' and many loving 'Yes's'; how to deal with changing needs around sleep and food, and how to stand up for what really matters to you and get your own needs met, as an individual and within your parental relationship.

Each workshop reflects who attends: we respond to your queries, and give you information and guidance about issues relevant to this stage. Led by Kitty Hagenbach and Helen Biscoe-Taylor.

Common topics include:

  • Developing speech and language
  • Behaviour, including tantrums
  • Bonding and Play
  • Sleep and bedrooms
  • Childcare and parents at work

Would you like to bring your baby?

We love having babies with us on the courses, but we do have guidelines: we welcome babes in arms and babies who are not yet walking.

We've found through experience that if a baby is walking, or pulling herself up a lot, it's really hard for the parents to focus. If a baby is crawling, it's much less distracting; crawling babies tend to become part of the group and take part in the day, they happily explore the room and engage with the other parents who are there. We have a selection of toys which prove very popular with babies and young children.

Healing Early Imprints

Parenting Courses

Written by Administrator

Healing Early Imprints is a self development workshop, offering you a personal process to boost self empowerment, wellbeing and freedom. Through a safely guided exploration of your early experiences, you’ll deepen your self-understanding and discover new ways of engaging with yourself and others.

“I’ve found my voice, and am more able to say what I truly mean.”
“I feel more connected to my heart.”
“For the first time I feel like I belong.”
“My perception has changed! Now the glass looks half full.”

The workshop runs over three days, in a small group, and is facilitated by Charisse Basquin. The experiential nature of the work and the emphasis on safety and spaciousness allows you to go at your own pace, and experience profound transformation.

What are early imprints?

Early experiences shape the development of the brainand nervous system. From conception to the age of 3, many neural pathways are formed, laying down patterns in areas of the brain involved in social and interpersonal relationships. This is the foundation for bonding and attachment.

Memories and styles of relationship are woven into your body; they are like ‘imprints’ in your nervous system. They continue to affect your behavior, relationships, self-esteem and expectations, as well as your physical and emotional wellbeing.

The ideal is for a child to feel nurtured, loved, accepted and affirmed. Where there has been too much stress, upset or poor bonding, resulting imprints may make it difficult for a person, in adulthood, to manage stress or to fully enter into relationship.

Creating new imprints

The nervous system, including the brain, is malleable, and can develop new pathways throughout life.

It is possible to create new imprints that are conducive to forging strong, loving and stable relationships, and support health and personal growth. The process tends to be deeply healing and empowering.

What happens on a workshop?

The workshop is experiential, and will be attended by 4-6 participants. The atmosphere is safe, nurturing and intimate.  Facilitator Charisse Basquin has many years experience of body-centred psychotherapy and pre and perinatal therapy and has worked with small intimate groups in the UK and USA for around 20 years years. She is well known for her exceptional sensitivity and skill.

Using a sensitive approach that taps into body-held memories of your early life, it is possible to access and alter patterns that inhibit full self expression or cause you difficulties today. You can create new imprints.

Each person in the workshop receives an individual session that varies in lengthfrom one to three hours. The group setting provides an opportunity for a great deal of support, and for deeper exploration than would be possible during one-to-one work. The group can mirror original familydynamics, providing revelations about early influences, and because the group is supportive, both exploration and healing can take place in a safe and therapeutic way.

Requirements

This process workshop involves some deep exploration, so you will be required to have already engaged in some therapeuticwork, and have access to follow up therapeutic support after the workshop.

To support clarity and safety, each participant is also required to refrain from the use of recreational drugs, including alcohol, for 24 hours prior to andduring the course of the workshop.
It's important to attend the entire workshop; this is an agreement required by all participants.

Next Workshop  25-27 June 2012 in Surrey

To talk to Charisse as you make your decision about whether to book, please contact us to request a telephone call from Charisse.
