Sleeping

Co-sleeping with your baby has so many benefits and with sensible precautions is a safe way for your baby to sleep. It's the most natural thing too - humans are the only mammals who put their babies to sleep away from parents; yet science shows that the benefits of staying close are enormous.

National guidelines on the safest way for babies to sleep advise parents to be in the same room as their baby for the first 6 months. At Babiesknow we support and encourage you to share a family bed with your baby - or to have your baby close to you, in your room. If you want to co-sleep with your baby, it is simple to follow safe guidelines, and then to enjoy the benefits - for you all.

Sleeping together:

  • promotes strong and secure bonding
  • supports optimal brain and body development
  • enhances breastfeeding
  • helps to boost immunity
  • reduces a baby's overall crying
  • can reduce sleep problems in later life
  • feels great!

We frequently discuss this very popular subject on our courses and answer questions about sleeping in bed with your baby ranging from 'What safety precautions do we need to take if baby is in bed with us?' to 'Is it OK to have sex when our baby is in bed with us?'. Beyond this, we discuss what's a normal sleep pattern for a baby, how often a baby may wake during the night, how many hours a baby can sleep for, sleeping patterns of toddlers, and what to do when it's time for your child to move to their own room.
